Project Description

Melanie Martinez’s Trilogy Tour 2024

All of it Now used Notch as a full creative suite in lending their talents to Melanie Martinez’s 2024 world tour.

Melanie Martinez’s latest tour tracks the artist’s creative journey through three distinct acts, each representing one of her albums and creating a linear narrative progressing through her childhood, adulthood, and afterlife. To bring such an ambitious concept to life, Show Director Paul “Arlo” Guthrie brought on All of it Now to create accompanying real-time visuals.

The All of it Now team used the themes and motifs in Martinez’s music to pitch ideas and develop custom camera looks, allowing fans to unite seamlessly with the artist’s creative core. The team specifically used Notch, employing a single Notch Block for their designs alongside a utility Block managing 3D data. This setup enabled them to track 2D material with stage lifts and a jaw-dropping seesaw effect.

All of it Now also incorporated some of Notch’s more advanced features, using the Virtual Background and Face Tracker to black out the star’s eyes in particularly dramatic moments. They even managed to use Notch as a practical problem-solver stretching beyond visual effects and digital manipulation: As the lifts moved, a black generative mass created in Notch masked the mechanics behind the wall, hiding any cables and maintaining the illusion of the show.

The Trilogy Tour began in North America in the summer, continues throughout Europe this fall, and will conclude in South America toward the end of 2024. Thus far, it’s received rave reviews from local and international press worldwide.

“Notch allowed us to do so much more than simply layer video effects. For this tour, we used the full arsenal of production and programming tools, which built on and enhanced our creative vision. Notch makes us stronger.”
